“Corporate Social Responsibility”, “CSR” – These words mean different things to companies everywhere. To all of us at Rain CII, CSR means that we responsibly manage our business processes to produce a positive impact on society.
We strive every day to be responsible business partners and employers, responsible members of the communities in which we live and work and responsible citizens of the world. We use the clear and precise guides and measures of our Building Blocks for Success and Quality Policy to evaluate our planning, investments and actions.
Our responsibility leads us to imagine how we can make more than quality calcined petroleum coke to meet our customers’ needs. It leads us to manage our manufacturing process to meet environmental regulations, and to scrutinize our operations daily for opportunities to excel. It also leads us to invest in operations redesign and equipment to reduce emissions.
Our responsibility leads us to discover ways to reap the greatest energy gains from our calcining process; to design, engineer and build waste heat recovery systems that make a proven contribution to the reduction of green house gas emissions, reduce EPA criteria pollutants, and create the carbon neutral cogeneration of energy – energy that we deliver back to our partners, communities and the grid.
Our unique Resourceful Giving program is designed to ensure that we give back to the communities in which we live and work by giving in accordance with our culture, our company-wide strengths and our individual skills – all to ensure unique benefits to each community.
Responsible and accountable.
We evaluate our actions as a company and as individuals – every day.
At the beginning and end of every day there is responsibility at the very core of what we do.
Simply said – we repurpose a refinery byproduct to support the manufacture of aluminum and TiO2.
We take great pride in the critical role we play in the production of aluminum – one of the world’s most important materials. With an annual capacity of 2.4 million metric tons of calcined petroleum coke (CPC), Rain CII is one of the world’s largest producers of CPC. We in fact account for approximately 8% of the global CPC market. Without CPC, there is no chemically or economically viable means for producing aluminum.
Without aluminum, some of the most essential elements of our society are not possible – elements such as high-tension electrical wire for energy transmission and aircraft for commercial flight. Simply put, Rain CII is a key player in the production of some of the daily staples of our society – staples that can easily be taken for granted.
Consider these important environmental facts about aluminum:
- The increased presence of aluminum in automobile manufacturing has correspondingly reduced the amount of steel, and therefore made cars lighter. For the average automobile, this use of aluminum removes 20kg of CO2 emissions, and 300 gallons of gasoline.
- The increased use of aluminum in planes, trains, and automobiles is projected to make the entire aluminum industry greenhouse gas neutral by the year 2025.
- 70% of the aluminum ever produced is still in use, lowering the weight of autos, structures and transmission lines, reducing energy use and helping support a better environment.
Rain CII is committed to our partners in the aluminum industry, to our role in the bright and dynamic future of this critical resource – and to our role as a resourceful energy-conserving industrial material producer, community leader and energy recycler.
