From Our CEO

Dear Friends:

Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts about our company and how our work affects you, your company, and our world.

Rain CII is a leading industrial carbon company. To us, leadership means more than being recognized for industry accomplishments and rankings. It also means stepping forward and doing the right things for our customers, our suppliers, our employees, our environment, and the communities in which we live and work.

Most people have never heard of Rain CII, nor do they know why carbon is so important. We aren’t concerned about notoriety. Our pride and passion are in turning green petroleum coke – a byproduct of the oil-refining process – into aluminum, one of our society’s most indispensable metals. We never stop developing innovative new processes, helping customers and suppliers solve problems and working with partners to maximize efficiency and profits. None of this would be possible, of course, without our employees.

Rain CII employees are our greatest asset and a crucial advantage to customers. Many companies say this, but I know unequivocally we have the best people in the carbon industry. They are well-trained, committed, and 100% focused on delivering quality products and services to our customers. We are proud of the many benefits and programs available to our employees to help make their careers at Rain CII as rewarding as possible.

Rain CII’s physical plants are also advantageous to customers. Our seven strategic locations ensure efficient supply and transportation, even when the unpredictable happens. After Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast, our diversified network allowed us to maintain operations and bounce back with remarkable speed. In extreme situations and every day, our suppliers and customers know we’re here when they need us.

On January 4, 2013, we acquired Rütgers, an historic Belgium-based coal tar distiller with a long heritage of supporting the aluminum industry as we do. I am especially excited about this growth of our company since it diversifies and expands our portfolio of products and geographic base of operations while adding vertical depth within our core business. This will strengthen our research and development operation for carbon supply to aluminum smelters and solidify our position as innovators in our industry.

All of us at Rain CII consider ourselves stewards of the environment and citizens of the communities in which we operate. We lead our industry in environmental enhancements such as waste-heat capture and energy co-generation; our goal is for our entire operation to soon be carbon-neutral. We support community programs and encourage our employees to get involved in local charity and civic initiatives. We never forget our responsibilities to the many people and resources we touch.

Rain CII’s promise is to be resourceful, reliable, and responsible in all we do. I’m proud to share with you how we bring the spirit of this promise to life and I welcome your comments and questions.

All my best,

Gerry Sweeney
